The next Prayer Vigil for Life will held on Saturday, June 25th. The celebrant of the Holy Mass will be Fr. Eduard Perrone, pastor of Assumption Grotto Church and will also be held there, followed by the rosary procession to the 2 abortion mills on E. Eight Mile.

Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament will conclude the vigil back at the church and refreshments will be served afterwards in the school.

These formal prayer vigils are so very important and we pray that you will attend if you possibly can, and ask your help by spreading the word and inviting all your family, friends, priests and parish, and all of your prolife internet contacts. Attached are copies of the flyer for your perusal.

He will lead us in prayer outside of a nearby abortion mill, after which we will return to St. Michael's for Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

Thousands of women choose to have their babies after speaking with "Helper's" sidewalk counselors who guide them to crisis pregnancy centers and offer other forms of assistance. It is amazing to hear the stories told by these counselors of how people come back to show them the baby that was spared the horrors of abortion.

The next prayer vigil with Helpers of God's Precious Infants will be led by Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron on Saturday, November 21, 2009.

Helpers rotates it's Mass location so that others may experience a peaceful way of working to end the horror of abortion one soul at a time. You will also notice that those leading the vigils are leaders within the archdiocese. This is not a protest, but a prayer vigil.

Participants will begin with 7:30am Mass with the Archbishop at St. Joan of Arc at 22412 Overlake St. in St. Clair Shores. People will then meet at St. Veronica's in Eastpointe where they will be led in a Rosary procession about 6 blocks to the 8 Mile Road boulevard (see pictures below from past events). Following the vigil there will be Benediction back at St. Joan of Arc parish. A meeting with refreshments and update on how the day went will take place before it all ends, usually around 10:30/11:00.

Helpers of God's Precious Infants Prayer Vigil - April 25th, 2009

The first prayer vigil of 2009 by Helpers of God's Precious Infants will be be on April 25th at St. Edmund's in Warren. Msgr. Robert McClory, Moderatorof the Curia for the Archdiocese of Detroit, will be the main celebrant for the Mass which starts at 7:30am.

Following Mass, the group will meet at St. Veronica's in Eastpointe where a peaceful, prayerful procession to two abortion clinics a few blocks away on 8 Mile Rd will take place. All 20 mysteries of the Rosary are prayed between the procession to, at, and from the abortion clinics.

Our protestant brothers and sisters, and others who value life are welcome. You can just join us in silent prayer as we process. However, if you look closely at the Rosary - often misunderstood by protestants - it is scriptural (look closely at the first joyful mystery as an example).

People may then return to Assumption Grotto about 1.5 miles from St. Veronica's where Benediction will take place and a brief followup meeting with refreshments will take place.

More about Helpers of God's Precious Infants
While large prayer vigils with up to 300 people take place four times yearly, the work of the Helpers is nearly a daily task for sidewalk counselors, and a 24/7 task for it's prayer warriors. Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, and the Rosary are core components of prayer. Each vigil is led by a bishop or monsignor of the Archdiocese of Detroit, with periodic visitors. Msgr Philip Reilly - the founder - also makes it a point to try to get around to the various chapters in the world. He has visited Detroit and we hope to be blessed with yet another visit.

Helpers of God's Precious Infants is an apostolate which uses gentle and caring methods to counsel young women and their partners into giving life as they go to abortion clinics. It is not a protest. It is rooted firmly in prayer not only for those seeking abortion, but for their families, the doctors, nurses and administrators of the clinics. They are very successful in their work, with men and women who chose to turn away from abortion coming back to thank them for the child that entered their lives by saying "yes" to life. They can share stories of these people coming back to the clinic just to show them the baby they saved through their love-filled efforts.

Skilled sidewalk counselors are there guiding them the men and women to resources that will aid them in many ways through the pregnancy, and after, as opposed to simply trying to stop the abortion alone.

The Helper's counselors do not scorn those who have gone into the clinics to have abortions in spite of their efforts. They offer them continuing prayers and post-abortive materials, knowing about the emotional and spiritual scars suffered by them later. The Silent-no-More Awareness Campaign - a large group of post-abortive women - gives witness to these painful facts.

Many young women are forced or coerced into killing their unborn babies by parents, boyfriends, and others - some of whom threaten violence against the women if they do not go through with the abortion. Hence, it is often not they who make the choice, but someone else who is making it for them. We must keep them all in our prayers.

Others are led into abortion by ignorance, with the belief that what is being removed from them is part of their own body - a piece of tissue, rather than an individual human life with it's own genetic code. As Catholics, we believe that God gives a person their soul at the moment of conception. This ensouled human being was created by God Who desires very much that she be brought into the world to be baptized and give glory to He Whom authored her life.

The Helper's of God's Precious Infants are in front of certain abortion mills during all hours of operation. They are always in need of people willing to be trained as counselors. You may only need to give one hour or two hours per week. They are also looking for people to serve as prayer warriors.

Further, there are many abortion clinics in Michigan and The Helpers of God's Precious Infants of Michigan mainly covers the two clinics on 8 Mile Rd (one in Detroit and the other in Eastepointe). The Helpers work throughout the week in front of these clinics, but hold prayer vigils about 4 times yearly, some of which are at other clinics in metro Detroit. There are many more clinics and too few people to cover them all. We are especially graced to have the rector/president of Sacred Heart Major Seminary, the Very Rev. Msgr. Jeffrey M. Monforton, lead this last vigil of the season.

Detroit — Auxiliary Bishop Daniel Flores will join Helpers of God's Precious Infants for a Saturday, Sept. 13, Prayer Vigil for Life outside the Lathrup Village abortion clinic run by abortionist Dr. Alberto Hodari.

Hodari has been one of America's most high-profile abortionists ever since pro-life student activists posted a video of a talk he gave at the Wayne State University medical School in 2007 on the Internet site www.youtube.com.

In the video, Hodari suggests doctors have a right to lie to patients, dismisses ethical concerns about abortion, and tells the students he no longer bothers to wear surgical gloves during abortions or scrub between procedures.

He achieved even greater notoriety after aborted babies were found in his trash in February.

The local Helpers of God's Precious Infants usually draws several hundred participants to its vigils outside abortion clinics in Eastpointe and northeast Detroit. Sidewalk counseling is also a part of the vigils, and then some of the group's members provide counseling outside the clinics on a daily basis.

The vigil outside Hodari's clinic "will be a huge witness to the whole community," said Dan Goodnow, founder and president of the local Helpers group and a member of St. Paul on the Lake Parish in Grosse Pointe Farms.'

"We are really in warfare with the 'culture of death.' It's a battle between good and evil, and we are trying to bring God's love to the community at large," he said.

Besides urging women approaching or leaving a clinic to reconsider having an abortion, sidewalk counselors also offer to put them in contact with crisis pregnancy centers where they can obtain various forms of assistance.

Goodnow said it is very seldom that the initial approach by a sidewalk counselor will deter a woman from even entering an abortion clinic, but some will come back out after sitting for a while in the waiting room: "We've had turnarounds on the table in the back, at the last second before the abortion."

Over the years, he said, their turnaround rate has hovered around one in five women, sometimes approaching one in four. Lately, however, he said it has been more like one in six.

Mary Beckhold, who works with Goodnow, said one of the most gratifying things is when a woman will return to the abortion clinic site – not to go into the clinic, but to show the sidewalk counselors the baby she had after their intervention.

"It's great when they come back with the babies," said Beckhold, a member of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin (Grotto) Parish in northeast Detroit.

Vigil this Saturday - June 14th

Helpers of God's Precious Infants is having their quarterly prayer vigil this Saturday - the day before Father's Day, beginning with Mass at St. Edmund's in Warren at 7:30am. Those who will pray at the vigil itself will then commute to St. Veronica's in Eastpointe for the roughly 5-6 block Rosary procession to 8 Mile Road where they will continue to pray before two abortion clinics. This is entirely peaceful and non-confrontational and typically draws anywhere between 150-300+ people in recent years. The vigil will be led by Msgr. John Zenz. It concludes with Benediction at Assumption Grotto which is just under two miles from St. Veronica, and a refreshment/meeting in Grotto's lounge.

Photostory of the March 2008 Helpers Prayer Vigil

It was chilly, but it was a nice day on March 29th. It started at 7:30 with Mass at St. Jude on 7 Mile in Detroit, celebrated by Bishop John M. Quinn - an auxiliary bishop of Detroit. It was followed by a Rosary procession from St. Veronica's near two clinics on 8 Mile - one in East Pointe and the other in Detroit. We were fortunate to have escorts from both city police departments due to the heavy traffic on 8 mile and the dangers of crossing as we do. All vigils are peaceful and uneventful in terms of problems.

Some of our Protestant brothers and sisters were out there as well, with the Bound4Life movement. You may have recognized the characteristic red tape on their mouths with the word "LIFE" written on it. It is not a protest, but a silent prayer - one they call the silent seige. This first pic is taken from their website since the tape is not too visible in my pics.

Each day the Blessed Sacrament will be in Exposition following the morning Mass until just before the evening Mass (Fri and Sat), and until the big closing ceremony on Sunday afternoon at 3:00.

Helpers of God's Precious Infants is always looking for prayer warriors - people who pray for the success of sidewalk counselors and for those considering abortion, their boyfriends, their relatives, those coercing the young ladies, the doctors, etc.

History has proven that prayer and peaceful counseling - not confrontation - is the key to turning people on this issue. It means setting aside anger and leaving it all in the hands of God, and in the Blessed Mother.

Helpers prayer warriors gather at abortion facilities at any time abortions are being performed. They provide crucial spiritual and moral support for the sidewalk counselors, and intercede on behalf of abortion-bound parents, using the Helpers Prayer Book of the Precious Blood of Jesus. Even when sidewalk counselors are not present, prayer warriors are vital. Many an abortion-bound mother has confessed she turned away from abortion, "Because I saw people at the abortion clinic who were praying for me."

This coming Saturday marks the day of yet another prayer vigil arranged by the Helpers of God's Precious Infants. This particular vigil will depart from the usual place of prayer - outside of two clinics in Detroit off of 8 Mile Rd - to a clinic on the west side.

St. Scholastica is actually off the service drive of the Southfield Freeway and on the corner of Outer Drive. Here is a google map. If you hit hybrid and zoom in, you will see a satellite view of the area, plus an overlay of street names.

Fr. Tom Euteneuer of HLI - A 1 Day Retreat in Detroit

Fr. Tom Euteneuer, Dan Goodnow (President of HGPI-Mich - backrow and two to the right of Fr. Tom), and members of the HGPI-Mich Advisory Board

Fr. Tom Euteneuer, the President of Human Life International who began his pro-life work with the Helpers of God's Precious Infants, came to Detroit on Memorial Day weekend to give a one-day retreat to the local Helpers.

The day began at 1:00 with a series of talks that would end around 7:00pm and included Mass at Assumption Grotto at 4:00pm Saturday.

The retreat itself focused on the subject contained in an upcoming book by Fr. Euteneuer, which he discusses in a blogpost made the same weekend in his Spirit & Life blog. That blogpost contains an excerpt from a Chapter entitled, "The Devil, His Minions, and His Activities"

Here are a few photos of the day.

Fr. Euteneuer then spoke at all the Masses at Assumption Grotto the following Sunday, and then celebrated the noon Novus Ordo, which is in the vernacular. At Assumption Grotto, the wall altar is used. The noon Mass was in English, as is typical most Sundays. He followed up with Benediction, which is also a weekly occurrence. From what little I have read, this sidewalk counselor does her work in the same spirit as the Helpers, with love and charity.

Comment moderation was turned on this blog and I had not noticed three comments for various posts. They now appear under the respective blogpost.

This blog will not be as dynamic as many blogs since it is basically used to let people in Michigan know about upcoming events held by the Helpers, as well as for general dissemination of information for the Helpers.

Do check in on a regular basis, especially as the weather improves. The first, large group prayer vigil will happen soon and will be announced here as soon as I have the details.

Of course, the Helpers of God's Precious Infants work daily, some doing sidewalk counseling, or praying nearby, or by simply offering their prayers and sufferings for the unborn. This we can all do.

Mass and Rosary for the Unborn - October 21, 2006

Bishop Earl Boyea will be celebrating Mass at St. Edmund's Parish in Warren, and will be leading the Rosary, on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 11:00am. It is sponsored by Helpers of God's Precious Infants of Michigan, and the St. Edmund's Knights of Columbus. From the flyer:

Please join us to pray for an end to the killing of unborn children, especially at the abortion clinic in our neighborhood (Hoover Rd., south of 12 Mile Rd.). Included with this intention is the election of prolife leaders in November which will make this moral miracle possible.

Bush Vetoes Federally Funded Stem Cell Research Measure

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- President Bush vetoed a Congressional bill that would have required taxpayers to pay for embryonic stem cell research. Bush announced the first veto of his presidency in a White House speech in a room filled children who had been adopted by their parents as frozen embryos.
Saying such research should not be funded because it involves the destruction of human life, Bush vetoed the bill.

"This bill would support the taking of innocent human life of the hope of finding medical benefits for others. It crosses a moral boundary that our society needs to respect, so I vetoed it," Bush said.

Some 18 families who had adopted frozen embryos -- called snowflake babies -- attended Bush's speech Wednesday. The families adopted the embryos that had been leftover from fertility treatments from other couples who didn't need them.

"Each of these children was still adopted while still an embryo and has been blessed with a chance to grow, to grow up in a loving family. These boys and girls are not spare parts," the president said.

Senate Approves Expanding Funds for Embryonic Stem Cell Research

WASHINGTON — The Senate passed a bill Tuesday allowing federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

The vote was 63-37. President Bush has vowed to veto the measure, the first of his five-and-a-half year old administration.

"The simple answer is he thinks murder's wrong," said White House spokesman Tony Snow. "The president is not going to get on the slippery slope of taking something living and making it dead for the purposes of scientific research."

Snow said the president had issued 141 veto threats during his time in the White House, often against spending increases for domestic programs. None came to fruition after deals were cut with lawmakers to avoid that outcome. This was the first time no deal could be cut, Snow said.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The White House released an emphatic statement on Monday, as the Senate began its debate on a bill to use taxpayer funds for pay for embryonic stem cell research, saying President Bush will definitely veto the bill because the funds would pay for science that destroys human life.
The Senate is expected to approve the bill with the 60 votes it needs when it votes on the measure Tuesday afternoon. However, whether it has enough votes to overturn a veto is in question.

"If [the legislation] were presented to the president, he would veto the bill,'' the official statement of administration policy said. Officials underlined the sentence in the statement for greater emphasis.

"The bill would compel all American taxpayers to pay for research that relies on the intentional destruction of human embryos for the derivation of stem cells, overturning the president's policy that funds research without promoting such ongoing destruction,'' it said.

The Monday announcement squares with comments a White House spokesman made at the end of last week.

"The legislation crosses an important moral line and if presented with the legislation -- the president would veto" it," Ken Lisaius said Thursday.

The announcement comes after lawmakers sough to put addition pressure on the president not to veto the measure.

Welcome to Helpers of Gods Precious Infants of Michigan!

This blog is the online home of the Helpers of God's Precious Infants of Michigan.

Keep checking back as we slowly build this site to tell you more about Helpers of God's Precious Infants of Michigan, and bring you news and photos of events, information, contacts, etc. This site will also serve to provide common documents Helpers may need in their work.

If you would like to know more about this international organization, please consult the webpages for the NY chapter, where it all originated. Explore information provided by many of the other chapters, as well (see sidebar). Each brings us much of the same information, but in various formatting, and to various level of detail.

For now, I'll leave you with some pictures of the prayer vigil which took place today outside of two abortion-mills in Detroit, Michigan.

It started with Mass, at St. Raymond's in Detroit, at 7:30am, with Bishop Schoenherr (retired).

We then met at St. Veronica's just about 4-5 blocks off of 8 Mile Rd near Gratiot and processed to the boulevard on 8 Mile Rd, with police escort.

Bishop Schoenherr met us at the boulevard and several priests and a deacon led us in praying the mysteries of the Rosary as we walked through the neighborhood to the abortion mills.

As the Helpers crossed 8 Mile Rd and gathered on the boulevard, the abortuary is seen in the foreground, with a clinic escort worker looking at the assembly of people.

The group was assembled on the boulevard.

I'll have to stop here with photos and hopefully have more success later. Blogger has a known problem with uploading photos and they are working on it. Since this service is free and works reasonably well, we will be sticking with it for the time being.
